
BE A PART OF OUR EFFORTS TO END DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND
SEXUAL ASSAULT IN COLUMBUS AND BLADEN COUNTY
COURT ADVOCATE: Volunteers help women during the court process and in filing restraining orders. Domestic Violence court is held every other Thursday and Civil Court is every Friday morning.
DIRECT SERVICES: This may involve crisis intervention, shelter intakes, liaison with other agencies and providing emotional support.
CHILDREN'S ADVOCATES: work with the children's program coordinator to address the needs of children who have witnessed domestic violence in their homes. Children are helped to deal with their feelings of fear, guilt, anger, distrust and low self-esteem.
- On Tuesdays, help is needed during the support group 6-8 p.m.
- Volunteers also are needed to plan activities with the children on weekends.
TRANSPORTATION: Volunteers are needed to transport women to court and medical appointments. (Participation in a volunteer training program of about 20 hours is required for those who want to work directly with clients).
OFFICE VOLUNTEER: May assist with answering phones, running errands, bulk mailings, assembling newsletter, writing "thank you" notes, data compilations, planning and implementing fundraisers and community awareness events.
Families Values: Volunteers are needed to work on sorting, pricing and displaying donations for resale, and to work as store clerks. We always need:
Disposable tableware: plates, 8oz. or larger cups, 12 oz. bowls, forks, spoons, napkins; aluminum foil, plastic wrap, paper towels & toilet tissue, light bulbs, coffee filters, facial tissues, trash bags
Twin, full and queen sheet sets, bath towels, washcloths, kitchen towels
Cleaning supplies, bleach, laundry and dish detergents
Unopened and sealed over-the-counter medications for colds, allergies, pain; baby aspirin, children's acetaminophen and other over-the-counter children's medications
Personal hygiene items (especially travel or sample sizes): toothpaste, toothbrushes, lotion, deodorant, combs, brushes, sanitary napkins, tampons and panty liners
Toys for older children and teens
Children's videos
Craft materials: Latch hook kits, poster paint, cloth material, paint for cloth, glitter and glue pens, face paint, molding clay
School supplies, large back packs
Stickers and Markers for Hands are not for Hitting anti-violence program for 2nd graders.
